Text messages used to report shortages in medicines, youth monitoring health worker absenteeism, and improving child health outcomes through popularizing basic health standards. These and other examples of promoting transparency and accountability though increased citizen participation and community monitoring were the focus of the March 25 seminar “Demanding Good Governance- Inside and Out”, co-sponsored by TAP and the World Bank. This was an event designed to highlight real-world examples of demand-side interventions that have been incorporated into service delivery, from both inside and outside of the World Bank. Presentations focused on the use of information and increasing third party monitoring of government services and programs the featured speakers from both World Bank projects and civil society organizations from India, Uganda, and Guatemala.
