The Independent Advocacy Project is a non-partisan research and advocacy not-for-profit non-governmental organization formed in 2004. The organization promotes open and transparent governments – at the federal, state and local government levels – where individuals and groups have the opportunity to be part of the decision making process, thereby contributing to efforts at eliminating or reducing corruption and opaqueness and promoting good governance. IAP works to strengthen democratic structures impacting on corruption and governance through competence building, networking, training, research, advocacy, campaigns, lobbying and other non violent methods. IAP brings individuals, groups and organizations together to build partnerships and share information on ways to promote participation, accountability and effectiveness. IAP activities are gender sensitive and rights-based, as the organization works to develop principles and practices of good governance. IAP actualizes its mission through research and surveys into issues germane to democracy, development and good governance in Nigeria; publication and dissemination of governance-related information and employing the findings of such studies as advocacy tools.
